2" Orion Variable Polarizing Eyepiece Filter Feature

  • A dimmer switch for your telescope! Helps to tone down brightness when viewing the Moon and planets to both optimize the view and reduce bright glare
  • Reduced brightness and glare unmasks detail in your viewing subject and greatly improves contrast
  • Adjust the amount of light transmission from 1% to 40% by rotating the eyepiece filter housing
  • The filter has an anodized aluminum cell, which threads into the barrel of any 2" Orion eyepiece
  • Foam-lined hard plastic filter storage case included
This versatile filter acts like a dimmer switch for your telescope, toning down the brightness of the Moon or planets to a level that is comfortable. The reduction in brightness and glare unmasks detail in your viewing subject and greatly improves contrast. The filter consists of two high-grade glass polarizing filters in a rotating cell that allows you to adjust the amount of light transmission from 1% to 40%. Such control is highly desirable for lunar observing because the Moon's brightness varies with its phase. The filter is great for terrestrial observing too, especially on sunny days. The filter has an anodized aluminum cell, which threads into the barrel of any standard 2" eyepiece. Storage case included.

  • Format: 1.25?
  • 3 Filter Settings: Nebula, Planetary, and Clear
  • Universal 1.25? slots for Filter Switching
  • Rotating Bezel
  • Metal Construction
Filtering out certain bands of light can be very useful when observing astronomical objects. Normally to use filters with your telescope you would have to thread the filters on and off of your eyepieces as you are use them. With the Galileo Color Filter Wheel, you simply switch eyepieces as you normally would. To switch filters, just rotate the dial on the Galileo Color Filter Wheel. There is even a "clear" setting so you can view objects without a filter without removing your Galileo Color Filter Wheel. The C.F.W. has three filter settings: Nebula, Planetary and Clear. The Nebular filter is great for filtering out light pollution such as ground light, while the Planetary filter is great for viewing the moon and planets by increasing contrast. The C.F.W. can also be set to clear so objects can be viewed normally without having to remove the Color Filter Wheel. Additionally the filters are universal 1.25 threaded filters so you can switch them out with other filters for more usability. Why be a pro when you can be a expert with little to no effort, step up to the Galileo Color Filter Wheel today.

Meade Eyepiece Filter 12 Yellow 1.25

Meade Eyepiece Filter 12 Yellow 1.25 Reviews

Other Picture

Color filters are an essential tool of the lunar and planetary observer, for filters permit the observation and photography of surface detail that is often virtually invisible without filtration.

Filters solve, or greatly reduce, the effects of two basic observing problems: (a) Irradiation is the fuzzying of a boundary between lighter and darker areas of the Moon or a planetary surface and can be caused either by the effects of highly contrasting light impacting the human eye or by the motion of the Earth's atmosphere, through which the observation is being made. (b) Contrast is the separation of adjacent surface regions according to their color; for example, a light green area on Mars can become mixed in the eye with an adjacent light yellow area, to the effect that the combined area appears yellow-green, unseparated into its component regions.

The use of a Meade Series 4000 color filter can mean the difference between seeing small craterlets in the floor of Clavius on the Moon and not; it can mean the difference between seeing five or six whirls, festoons, and loops in Jupiter's north equatorial belt and seeing one or two; it can mean the difference between seeing the inner crepe ring of Saturn and not. Depending on atmospheric conditions on both the Earth and the planet being observed, the advantages of color filters can be anywhere from subtle to dramatic.Series 4000 filters thread into the barrels of virtually all 1.25" eyepiece brands.

Meade Series 4000 filters are a large 26mm in clear aperture and are manufactured from the purest crown optical glass, dyed-in-the-mass (not "color coated"); there are no finer filters available for telescopic applications. Each filter glass is anti-reflection coated on both sides and is mounted in a machined aluminum cell with the Wratten No. of the filter marked on the side of the cell. Filters may be piggybacked, or stacked, to achieve selective filtration of

SBIG CFW10 10-Position Filter Wheel for the ST-7, 8, 9, 10 & 2000 USB Model Cameras, Filters Not Included.

SBIG CFW10 10-Position Filter Wheel for the ST-7, 8, 9, 10 & 2000 USB Model Cameras, Filters Not Included. Reviews

Other Picture

The SBIG CFW10 is a ten-position filter wheel designed for the USB version of the ST camera series where a serial port is available for controlling the wheel. The CFW10 accepts control input via the I2C port. When attached to an ST-7/8/9/10/2000 USB camera, the filter wheel receives power and control commands through the I2C accessory port of the camera - no additional power or cable to the computer is required. The portion of the housing between the camera and the telescope is only about 3/4" (20mm) thick for minimum back focus. Two versions of the housing make it possible to use the CFW10 either as a separate unit, or as an integral piece replacing the face plate of the ST series camera. The replacement version contains a high quality optical window with superior AR coatings. By using the filter wheel housing as a replacement face plate for the camera, an additional 1/4" (6mm) in back focus is eliminated. The front aperture of the CFW10 contains standard t-threads. A custom camera lens adapter will be available for commonly available 35mm Nikon, Canon, Olympus and other lenses. For attachment to the telescope, a 1.25" nosepiece or 2" nosepiece may be used, or a t-thread to visual back adapter for more secure fit to Schmidt-Cassegrain scopes. For other scopes, any adapter with male t-threads can be used to secure the filter wheel.

2" Orion Extra Narrowband Filter Set

2" Orion Extra Narrowband Filter Set Reviews

Other Picture

2" Orion Extra Narrowband Filter Set Feature

  • These specialized astrophotography filters pass select wavelengths and essentially block all other wavelengths of light, including light pollution, so you can capture images in less than ideal conditions
  • Ideal for use with Orion monochrome Parsec and StarShoot astrophotography cameras
  • H-Alpha filter transmits 90% of light at 656.3nm wavelength
  • S-II filter highlights deep red Sulfur-II wavelength features of emission nebulae
  • O-III filter highlights blue/green Oxygen-III wavelength features of emission nebulae
Orion's 2" Extra Narrowband Hydrogen-Alpha, Oxygen-III, and Sulfur-II filters are designed to enhance the contrast of emission nebulae in monochrome astrophotography. They are perfect for using with a monochrome CCD camera like Orion's Parsec 8300M Astronomical Imaging Camera. Imaging with extra-narrowband filters is the latest technique used by amateur astronomers for producing striking, high-contrast color CCD astrophotos of emission nebulae. These specialized 'line' filters transmit only the specific wavelengths of light important in these nebulae, while blocking out all the rest. They blacken the background sky to produce high-contrast images, even in heavily light-polluted or brightly moonlit skies. The filters can be used separately or in combination with a filter wheel for advanced tri-color astrophotography. Capture your favorite nebulae in a revealing new light - no matter how light-polluted your skies. Add Orion's 2" Extra Narrowband CCD Filters to your imaging repertoire! Includes a protective plastic case for each.
